In 1 Thessalonians 4:13–18, Paul reminds believers that the resurrection of the dead is certain because it is grounded in the resurrection of Jesus Himself. He also shows that the resurrection is ordered, with Christ returning first and His people being raised and gathered to Him according to God’s perfect plan. Because this hope is secure and future glory is assured, believers are called to encourage one another with these words.

In a moment of confusion and betrayal, Jesus anchors His disciples in clarity and purpose: love one another as I have loved you. This kind of love, Jesus says, is how the world will know who belongs to Him.
